Le Selfie
Procreate & Adobe Photoshop
Overview
This project involved creating a self-portrait—a “selfie” that visually represents my personal journey in digital art and creative design without the use of words. The goal was to express my identity and creative evolution through imagery, composition, and symbolism, crafting a piece that speaks through visual storytelling rather than text.
Approach
I began by taking an off-center mirror selfie using the front camera, applying the rule of thirds to create dynamic composition and multiple reflections that add depth. This intimate image was layered over a vibrant coastal photo I took in Panama, symbolizing independence and growth.
To unify the piece, I applied a soft blue overlay that ties the selfie and background together while reflecting the color of my shirt. I then incorporated images representing my interests, such as food, art, nature, and hobbies, interwoven with a “rope” brush texture reminiscent of yarn, connecting the elements visually and thematically.
Finally, I integrated small cutouts of myself rock climbing along the yarn strands, highlighting how my passions propel my creative journey. The resulting composition is a layered, evocative narrative that communicates my identity as a digital artist through visual metaphor and design.
